| Q:I heard that the first time a girl has sex it hurts, and that she bleeds. Is that always true regardless of age?
Dr. Drew: It is definitely not the case that all females experience pain and/ or bleeding the first time they have sexual intercourse. Women who remain virgins into adulthood usually experience little or no pain and/or bleeding during their first attempt at intercourse. As women grow older, especially after the age of eighteen, the hymen becomes more elastic and begins to regress, if it has not already ruptured spontaneously. Thus, as a rule of thumb, a female will experience more pain and/or bleeding the younger she has sex for the first time. Take me back to Dr. Drew's section of Dating Advice.
