| Q:I'm under 18 years old. Do I need my parents' permission to get birth-control pills?
Dr. Drew: Absolutely not. In most states you have the right to completely confidential health care at the age of 14. Birth control is an important discussion to have with your health-care provider. At the very least, you should have emergency contraception available if you are not specifically planning to become sexually active. However, if you are planning to be sexually active, going on the pill would be a mature part of caring for your reproductive health and maintaining control over your pregnancy risk.
